Influx Dance Company has been committed to creating, performing and teaching a diverse and exciting range of contemporary dance in the south west region. Influx consists of graduates from the Laban Centre London (one of the leading contemporary dance schools in Europe) and was established by Joanne Willmott and Nicola Penfold who brought the company to the south west in 2001.
Influx were appointed dance company in residence at the Tacchi Morris Arts Centre, Taunton in 2003. From their base at the Arts Centre they play a key role in delivering a range of dance to the community; leading, for example, the highly successful Taunton Youth Dance Company (TYDC). Influx is continually supported in a variety of ways by Take Art: Dance and Dance South West. This support has been integral in the development of the company, which creates “vibrant and exciting contemporary dance” (Steve Elliott, Tacchi-Morris Centre) where “choreography is sophisticated, inventive and detailed” (Chris Fogg, Take Art Dance). As a company, Influx strives to look outwards, while retaining its roots in the south west via performance and teaching opportunities.
Influx aims to provide access to dance that is inspiring, challenging and provocative; dance that can encourage participation and reach wider audiences. Our passion and strong belief that dance does and can make a difference inclusive of all ages and abilities is an important feature and strength of our educational work.
