Look out for the new full length production by Influx dance Company which is currently in the creative phase. Their new work is based on the short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman: ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’. The company have been awarded Arts Council England funding to develop the piece in New York City. Influx will be bringing the work back to the UK to extend the creative process and tour their new production in 2011. Joanne Willmott and Nicola Penfold will be seeking professional development opportunities at Dance New Amsterdam in New York City. Joanne will be participating in six months professional development on the Choreographic Investigation Course whilst taking dance workshops in a range of techniques. ARRIVAL toured across the UK in twelve venues, featuring work by Yael Flexer, Bawren Tavaziva and Joanne Willmott. The triple bill offered a variety of unique ‘takes’ on the theme of journeys. Yael Flexer created a piece which touched on the company’s theatrical personality before dehumanising the cast in a blaze of verve and technical poignancy juxtaposed against moments of defeat and unrest. Bawren Tavaziva’s piece worked in beautiful contrast. He revealed a touching insight into tacit struggles felt by women who are trying to ‘make sense of’ and ‘order’ their lives in everyday Africa. Inspired by myth and legend Joanne Willmott’s work portrays the strength of women both feminine and brutal in an emotive piece which is "lyrical and elegiac in style and performed with a crystal like clarity" (Chris Fogg Take Art: Dance) This triple bill has been hugely influential in the experience of the company and in their professional development, and this process has given Influx a new edge that is continually expanding. Alongside the tour of this production Influx worked in over twenty schools and colleges to create new work which also gave young people a performance opportunity; providing successful curtain raisers for the Arrival show.  Site Specific  Village fete (July 2009).
